21 Day Fix – Day 21

I just want to start by wishing all of my mama readers a very happy Mother’s Day! Ihope, even if your children aren’t with you, that you are being celebrated. I believe children learn the most from their parents, and moms in particular, are a guiding light. I’ve learned all of life’s most important lessons from my mom and she’s the best example of the type of person I want to be. She never speaks negatively of anyone except for this one guy on a commercial that comes on all of the time (Who knows how he got cast). She always looks at things objectively, she gives more than she receives, she forgives, loves wholly, helps those who have less and those who have more, and treats everyone as equals. She’s understanding, she listens, she smiles at strangers because she wants them to smile, she’s empathetic, kind, smart, beautiful, strong, resilient, and wishes the best for everyone. She never gives up on me when I feel like giving up on myself and that’s what makes me keep going at the end of the day. I have no idea how I got so extremely lucky. I could say all of the same for my dad (but it’s Mother’s Day!). In my opinion both of my parents are as close to perfect as you can possibly be. Mother’s you are your child’s blessing, just as they are yours.Through my mother I see, and I know Gods love. If I become a mother I hope I can somehow compare. Thank you mom!!

Yesterday was so fun and busy that I was too exhausted to blog last night. You didn’t miss much though. The day started off pretty well with my workout and healthy breakfast but moving on from there it all went downhill. I’m not upset about it though. I knew what my choices were and I knew I was going to have to make up for it afterwards. 

My boyfriend and I hung out with my parents all weekend and went to the Blind Willie Blues Festival in Thomson, GA. I’ll be posting a video of it on my TownieGirl YouTube channel, so if you’re interested please subscribe and you’ll get an update when I post it this week. It was a lot of fun! It’s such a great annual event and this is the second time we have been. I highly recommend it! I had a few beers and snacked on treats pretty much all day. When we went for dinner I got a perfect juicy hamburger and I enjoyed every bit of it. My belly wasn’t really thanking me, but my tastebuds were.


Today I woke up and ate some fruit then took my boyfriend to the airport. I’m still out of town so checked in to a hotel, got some healthy groceries, and got my yoga in. Plus I did one of the workouts from the 22 minute hardcore series. It worked me! This is the last day of the 21 day fix for me and I’ll be posting my results on Tuesday when I’m finally home and have access to the tape measure. That doesn’t mean I’m stopping. I’m starting over again tomorrow! This week I’m going to learn more about what it takes to be a coach so you’ll get new updates on that as well. 21 Day Fix – Day 15

It’s Monday, Day 15! Time goes by so fast! Even so, I still don’t appreciate Monday’s as much as I should. Every day is a blessing and I should count each Monday as Saturday’s equal. I Even though I woke up early today, I didn’t fit in everything I planned to do, but I was still pretty productive. I feel like I had a mountain of email to climb today and I climbed half way up. It was more like Mount Everest than Mount Baldy (if you don’t know where that is, there is always Google). *Side note: We used to go to Mount Baldy just for the “Mount Baldy” that one of the local places served. It was a huge pile up of nachos with everything you could ever want on it. Sometimes I still dream about it…<sigh> … Anyway, I organized, I saw a customer that needed help with some bridal party gifts, talked to folks on the phone, and I did not one but two workouts!! I’ll be here all week folks, no need to applause!!

During the 3rd and final week of the 21 day fix, Autumn recommends that you do two workouts a day, one in the morning and one in the evening to re-boost your metabolism. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to do that all this week because I’m traveling so much, but I’m going to try! I’ve got my iPad with the 30 day trial of beachbody and I bought that resistance band at Walmart. I’m interested to see how I do with that instead of weights. I got the heavy one so I think that will give me a run for my money. Otherwise I’ll be running back to Walmart to get my money! Hehe

The Workout:

Total Cardio Fix – I did this in the morning and I tried to increase weights on all exercises, but on a couple I had to go back to the lighter weights. I wish I had even lighter weights for the weighted knee pulls. I’m getting better on those, but I had to do the last 15-20 seconds of each round without weights. Otherwise the tens on most of the exercises worked for me. Oh I also started out with tens during the weighted runs and switched to eights a little more than half way through each set. The tens definitely bump up the intensity and I was sweeeaaaaty (and definitely wanted to stop, but I didn’t).

Pilates – I changed back into my workout clothes and got double the sweat on. You wouldn’t think pilates would make you sweat that much, but it does! It’s so cool to see how I’m improving every week with my form and strength. I hope I’m getting addicted!



Today’s Eats:

Breakfast:

(1 1/2 red, 1/2 green)

  • 2 Veggie Frittata Muffins

and then I had another one for a snack after my first workout.

Lunch:

(1 red, 1/2 green, 1/2 blue)

  • Canned tuna with hot sauce
  • Cucumbers
  • Hummus

Snack:

(1 Green, 1/2 purple)

  • Green Juice

Dinner:

(1 red, 1 green)

  • Chicken from the crock-pot
  • Roasted zucchini & squash

Snack:

  • Protein powder with 8 oz unsweetened almond milk

So I just got this protein powder. One of my customers had given me a packet to try after she listened to what I was looking for. She carries the Raw Fit probiotics and the protein powder which is certified organic. One jug only has 10 servings I believe and I really wanted it so I ordered it online. I’m hoping I’ll like it and the next time I see her I’m going to pick up some from her. Shakeology from what I’ve seen is great, but for my diet this works better. Some shakeology flavors are dairy and gluten free so I may try those. If you don’t have any issues then I would recommend Shakeology as everyone seems to love it and the reviews are great. The Raw fit was a little gritty but I didn’t blend it at all, I just used my shaker and shook it baby! I’m used to using protein powders as a supplement and chugging them. I rarely make something tasty with them just because I use them when I’m in my car for the most part.


In other news, I had my improv class tonight with Mad Cowford which was super fun as always. I might have said this before, but it’s so much fun to see everyone grow and I have such a great group. I’ve thought about joining in before, but everything happens in it’s own time and I know I was meant to be part of this group.Everyone is so supportive of one another and I see some bonds forming. Oh I love it. We’re so cute!

Step outside of your box and try something new. You never know who you’re going to meet or what you’re going to learn about yourself. It could change your life. Sometimes change is weird, sometimes it’s hard, sometimes it makes you nervous. Most of the time it turns out to be really really good. You have to start doing something for yourself. It’s only when we truly love ourselves that we can give fully to others.

21 Day Fix – Day 14

I had a busy day, too busy for a Sunday if you ask me. I wanted to watch Hulu all day. I have some major guilty pleasures on there that I won’t speak of. They might ruin my reputation of being kind of cool. I had an audition that I needed to put on tape so my friend Chris helped me out, then after several takes I got it to my liking and drove to the grocery store. I loaded up on produce and meat, came home, unloaded, and began my meal prep. This week is going to be a little tricky because I won’t be home Wednesday through Friday. I’m working the outskirts of my territory so am overnighting it. I plan to take a cooler for breakfasts, snacks, and lunch at least.

Today I made paleo egg muffins. I’ve made them before following a recipe and they are super easy so I just kind of winged it this time. My recipe:

  • 10 eggs
  • 1/4 C Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • 10 asparagus spears
  • 4 mushrooms
  • 1/2 Red Onion 
  • 2 Sweet peppers

Preheat oven to 350. Chop all vegetables and sauté in coconut oil. Whisk eggs and almond milk together. Once veggies are done to your liking separate them into your muffin pan. Pour egg mixture on top of veggies and bake for approximately 20 minutes. Yields 12 muffins, 6 servings.

For 21 day fix servings: 1 red, 1/3 green


I also made my green juice for three days. You really don’t want to make too much of this ahead. Make sure that if you do store your juice, store it in an air tight container. 

  • 2 lemons peeled
  • 1 1/2 celery stalks
  • 1 bunch of Kale
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 inch size piece of ginger
  • 8 strawberries

Yield 3 10 oz servings. I count each serving as 1 green, 1/3 purple.

  
Next I prepped my butternut squash fries. Now I seriously hate making this but I love the way they taste. I think this counts as a workout. I have the recipe posted on one of my blogs from several days ago, but you can find them on Pinterest too. Just make sure to sub any ingredients that you shouldn’t have. I seasoned mine with Himalayan sea salt, garlic powder, pepper, and paprika and have them in a gallon ziplock bag in my fridge. You might want to wait on the garlic powder because every time I open the fridge I get punched in the face with the smell of garlic. I have a black eye.

  
Right now I also have a whole chicken defrosting on the counter. First thing in the morning I’m putting that baby in the crockpot so dinner will be done without me having to tend to it. I also have some zuchinni and squash ready to go in the oven as a side. Tomorrow’s not even here and it’s done. Yayo!

There is also a chicken and cabbage recipe that I didn’t have time to make but it’s super quick and easy. I’ll be making that very early tomorrow morning before work gets started for my lunches. I should have made it today but I still had to get my workout in. Speaking of…

The Workout

Yoga Fix – I definitely wanted to do yoga today but I felt like doing something a little extra. I needed a little push after my cheat evening on Saturday. Although I was busy all day today I wanted to sweat a little more. Before yoga I did four rounds of this to get my heart rate up and burn some extra calories…


I found it on pinterst and thought it was the perfect little push, without going all out, that I needed for today. Afterwards, yoga felt great. Every time I feel stronger and better about my alignment in the poses. It’s funny when you think you’re doing it right, make an adjustment, and then realize you’re doing it right.

Today’s Eats

Breakfast:

(1 red, 1/2 green)

  • Veggie fritata. No cheese!

Lunch:

(2 red)

  • Leftover turkey meatloaf

Snack

(1 green, 1/3 purple)

  • Green juice 

Dinner:

(1 red, 1 green)

  • Grilled chicken breast
  • Slaw without mayo 

Everything I do is without mayo. I can’t stand it. That and snakes are my worst fear. If I were ever to experience hell, it will be snakes swimming around in mayo. Ugh. That’s awful imagery. I’m sorry.

21 Day Fix – Day 8

So this morning I got up and thought I’d weigh myself since it’s been one whole week. I haven’t lost a pound (insert blochy teary eyed face). I am not weighing myself anymore until the end. I know there isn’t anything wrong with me. I just had a check up at the Dr. and was issued an  A+ on my clean bill of health. No thyroid problems or anything. So I took a deep breath and said, “Jul, just stick to the program and it will all work out.”

My measurements haven’t changed either (for those of you wondering). Well I didn’t measure everything else today, just my arms, waist, and hips…but those didn’t change. 

So, someone has a case of the Monday’s…

Today instead of being out and about I’ll be in front of my computer for the most part of the day on conference calls and customer calls.We have an awesome new line we are representing called Cinda B so that’s super exciting! If you haven’t watched my vlogs or read any of my other posts, I am a territory manager for a company called Just Got 2 Have It. We rep so many great brands that you see in your local boutiques. It is such a fun job. Not only is it great because of the line up of brands we have, but our rep group is amazing – the best team I’ve ever been a part of (it’s mostly women and I haven’t even seen one cat fight), and fabulous customers!

I was going to try to workout this morning but I didn’t have time and accidently slept until 7:15m. Hopefully I can fit something in between work and my improv class tonight. If not, it’s going to be a late one!

The Workout:

Total Body Cardio Fix

Not to be confused with Cardio Fix, but they both kick your butt. The surrenders, which are the very first exercise after the warm up are getting easier for me. They are super easy on my right leg, but my left leg still struggles. My right leg has always been my dominant leg and also measures bigger. I think they still look pretty symetrical though.Crap, I’ve never thought about it. What if every time I walk into a room, somebody’s like, “Oh there goes Julie Ann with her big right thigh. I bet if you fry that up it would taste just like chicken!”

Omg, I hope not. Haters gonna hate. I bet my thighs do taste like chicken and now they’re going from processed and fatty to free range lean mean organic machines!

Anway, I do need some heavier weights for the leg exercises so hopefully I’ll have some time to grab some this week.

Today’s Eats:

Breakfast:

(1 red, 1/2 green)

  • Scrambled eggs with hot sauce
  • Green beans

We had plenty of green beans leftover from last night so I’m probably going to have the rest for lunch or dinner

Snack:

(1/2 green)

  • Green Beans

…or maybe I had the rest for a snack. I had them cold and they were a great snack actually. I might just have to make them for snacks. They’re like veggie fries!

Lunch:

(1 red, 1 yellow, 1/2 blue)

  • 1 can of tuna
  • black beans
  • shredded white cheddar and hot sauce to top it off

Oh you know, just love that canned protien!

Snack:

(1 1/2 green, 1 purple)

  • Strawberry Spinich smoothie with 4 oz almond milk and water

This is the same thing I had yesterday without the carrots. Sooo goood and refreshing.

Dinner:

(1/2 green, 2 red, 1/2 blue)

  • Bun less sandwich?

I guess that’s what it was. I fit in my workout in just enough time to take a shower, get on another call for work, then grab something out of the fridge before heading to my improv class. You know what’s good about improv class? It helps you improvise! I had no plan for dinner so I grabbed a couple of romaine lettuce leaves, some turkey, and some hummus. I cracked an egg in the pan and flipped that right on top and devoured it. That’s why there’s no picture. It was eggcellent and the yolk almost dribbled on to my white shirt but I did a little dance move and it went on to the floor instead. Don’t worry, I cleaned it up!

What a crazy day of eats. This is how I don’t meal prep. Works for me though.

I’m just getting home and am ready for bed. I also just had (2tsp) some almond butter because I didn’t use my teaspoons today. It was a nice little treat.

Class was fun, but I was a bit tired and not on top of it. I love watching my classmates more than anything. It almost, not quite, but almost makes me want to direct.

Here is another lesson learned through improv: 

Trust the process. It all comes together in the end.

If you haven’t heard about Bops, it’s okay. You’re just late to the party! Bops is a unique line that kind of has that boho chic feel, but can be placed into anyone’s jewelry box or closet at the same time. However, the past two seasons they have added several new things into their product mix which makes me even more in love. The quality of their items is awesome too (especially for the price).

I won’t go over all of the products because you can visit their website and see for yourselves. I do want to go over a couple of products that are made by women in their sewing programs in India and most recently Guatemala. Bops started these sewing programs to teach women how to sew and provide them with leadership skills so they can become entrepreneurs and in turn provide for their families without having to rely on anyone else. In many of the impoverished communities, women don’t have the skills or opportunities to work for others, let alone themselves. 

The women that have graduated from the India sewing program have been making reversible cross body sling bags that have beautiful prints. They are roomy, comfortable, and cute. This year they started making little jewelry pouches and coin purses that have a similar look. The coin purses have eight side pockets on the inside to hold your smaller pieces, and the center will carry your chunkier pieces. These are great for traveling and for gift giving!

So far 250 women have graduated from the India Sewing Program. How about those apples!

Dropping Knowledge:  In Guatemala women create their own yarn and use natural dyes for color. All of the bops products from these indigenous artists are made from Huipils (wipil) which is the most common traditional garment worn by women in central Mexico and Central America.  It’s a tunic made of rectangular pieces of fabric that are stitched or tied together.

Fresh Friday – Fresh Field Farms

So today when I opened up the freezer to pull something out for dinner tonight I realized that it was time for a trip to the grocery. Whenever I need an ingredient for a couple of things I’ll just pop into the store and pick it up. Today I felt like going on a much needed adventure though…and adventure to Fresh Field Farms!

The holiday season got kind of tricky for my regular grocery shopping sessions because my household was very busy. Between me and my boyfriend we have a lot going on because we both have regular work hours and then we have our not so regular work hours when we are still actually working. He is in an outlaw country band and plays the stand up bass and I am an actor. Our schedules are always packed so sometimes it’s hard to find the time to cook healthy meals. Often I’ll buy fresh veggies and they will go bad by the time we are actually able to stay home and cook a nice healthy meal. Now that the holiday’s have been over, it’s easier to get on and stay on track. I just have to figure out how to tackle the holidays when they come up. Advanced meal prep is key…I have yet to do that!

Fresh Feild Farm’s is a great grocery store. It’s more of a farmers market. They bring the farm to you! It’s full of freshly packed, organic, non GMO, antiboitic and hormone free foods. Many people are scared to jump on the health food bandwagon because it may seem more expensive to buy fresh foods (especially of a great quality) than processed foods, but that isn’t the case if you know where to shop! I definitely suggest scoping out your local farmers markets if you don’t have access to a store like this. Although, it seems now that people are becoming more aware of their diets and nutrition, places like this are popping up everywhere, so be on the lookout!
