Let That $h!t Go

So much to do, so little time. That saying is so true and I know we all feel it. Summer has faded into Fall, despite what the temperature may feel like in your area. Here in Jacksonville it’s still hot as a mother (oh wait, I’m a mother! Ha, I am too kind!). Since my job revolves around looking forward and sharing new trends, it makes time go by way too fast. It’s October already and the Christmas scented candles are already selling like crazy! My daughter is about to be 16 months old and with every milestone I feel like she is getting closer and closer to having her own family. Ok, that may be a bit far off, but still time flies.

My goal every day and my prayer every night is that we live in the moment. Of course I pray for a bright and healthy future for us and our world, but the moments are so much more dear. I get caught up in what could be and what will be that I tend to forget about the present. I forget that my squirmy little girl’s tantrums are something to absolutely adore because she is living loud and feeling and learning and growing. I forget that my car breaking down gives me a chance to practice patience and not be all “woe is me.” It’s the universe giving me a lesson in basic math by problem solving and figuring out a work around for my life. I let my reflexive thoughts get the best of me when something doesn’t go the way I planned instead of being thoughtful and selfless. I forget that the future just might not be.

What I notice around me is that most other people do the same thing. The more social our network is, we see more people in our network suffering. Suffering from depression, health complications, grief, anxiety, being over worked, lonely, too busy or too social and putting important things aside, or even acting like none of this exists and pretending everything is perfection. I also notice that a lot of people just want to laugh to take away some of this suffering.

My husband says I’m addicted to my phone and he’s probably right. I play mindless games when I’m not motivated to read at night or get extra work done or blog like I am now. I check my email constantly. I scroll through Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn just to see what everyone’s up to and to make sure I’m not missing out – on what? What could I possibly be missing out on that’s not right here in front of me?

You want to know what would take away some of the suffering? Self care. Whether it be talking to a therapist or life coach or following your own advice that you often give to others. Maybe, going for a drive and stopping in somewhere you haven’t been for a cup of coffee. How about closing your eyes and breathing in and out deeply for just 5 minutes? Giving someone a compliment or even a hug – chances are you both need it. Take some time for yourself and give your time to others, most importantly your close friends and family. We are given a very brief time on this earth.

Its so hard to be thoughtful about each moment because our lives are happening and we are constantly being interrupted by one thing or another. It’s up to us to shut those interruptions out and not let them get in the way of what is important. Shut the door in interruption’s face and don’t feel bad about it. Interruption does have a way of pulling you towards it so make a conscious effort to go the other way and use your energy for the good of your life instead. We have so many things in our lives that we don’t need and they add zero value. It’s like Marie Kondo says in her book the life-changing magic of tidying up, “does it bring you joy?”

Apply that same thought to non- material things that surround you. Anything that doesn’t bring you joy, let that $h!t go.

Can you pick five things off of the top of your head that you know you would be better off letting go? I can think of more than that.

3 Day Refresh – Day 3 + Results!

I know I know, you’ve been waiting to see how Day 3 went and I haven’t posted!! I just wanted to keep you on the edge of your seats, that’s all.

Or…maybe I’m just hoping that you’ve been waiting anxiously…Either way here goes!

First of all I have to say that this cleanse has been fantastic. On Day 3 I was starting to crave foods that weren’t allowed on the cleanse – proteins for the most part, but it still wasn’t hard to pass up what my boyfriend was eating while I drank a shake and ate veggies.

Day 3 eats:

  • Breakfast: Chocolate Vegan Shakeology & half a banana. I decided to have these separately instead of blended together and it made me feel like I had more to eat.
  • Fiber Sweep – again with extra lemon juice. Everyone in our accountability group seemed to like the taste of this and I did too, but you still want to make sure to drink it pretty quickly so you don’t have any clumps.
  • Lunch: I had my vanilla fresh with strawberries (and had a few strawberries left over to eat) as well as two medium celery sticks with hummus. I loooove hummus!
  • Afternoon snack: I sauteed spinach in coconut oil and it was a super-good super-food!! I also made decaffeinated green tea and it was a nice little bonus.
  • Dinner: I had vanilla fresh again and added cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger to it. Vanilla fresh does kind of get old through the process, but this combo definitely made it better. I also made the cucumber tomato recipe that is provided in the 3 day refresh booklet and it was great. The serving was actually more than I needed and I was full halfway through, but I ate it all because I felt like I needed to stick to the cleanse to a T.

They say not to exert yourself too much during the refresh, but I’ve gotten so used to working out that I just had to. I did the Beachbody 21 day extreme leg workout and it was intense but not overly. I love this workout, but then again, I love working my legs. I think this also helped burn some extra calories and my legs were definitely a little sore on day 4.

Results:

I was so looking forward to waking up in the morning to see my results that I didn’t sleep very well. I measured myself and lost 1″ around my waist, 1″ around my hips, and 1/4″ around both of my thighs which amounts to 2.5″ in all!! I lost a pound (I have trouble losing weight, but I think that also has to do with building muscle) and I am very happy with the results!! I feel so good from the inside out and will hopefully maintain these results through the next 21 day round.

I think I will definitely do this again, probably after the July 4th holiday, so if you want to jump on board and try it, let me know!!!

3 Day Refresh – Day 2

Today has been pretty good! I’ve heard from a lot of people that day 2 is the hardest and it wasn’t really bad for me. I did have a headache early in the morning and took some Aspirin with a bunch of water and almost immediately felt better. I may have just needed the water! I also felt a little tired, but I think it was mostly from sitting in front of my computer all day. We have one car this week so I had to reschedule some things so I could work from home for a couple of days instead of from my car. If it had to happen, this was good timing…close to a bathroom, got my blender, and I didn’t have to prepare my snacks ahead of time. Although, if I do this again I don’t think it will be a problem if I’m doing it while traveling.
Today pretty much mimicked yesterday as far as my food went. I did get a variety of fruits and veggies but yesterday was so great that I decided to copy it. The only difference was I used strawberries instead of raspberries in my first vanilla fresh (and even had a few leftover strawberries to eat) and I made a different recipe out of the pamphlet for dinner. I made steamed kale with pinenuts, juice from one lemon, and pink Himalayan sea salt. It was so delicious! I would have been happy with a little less lemon though.

I have a great steamer/rice cooker and it makes everything perfectly. In the recipe instructions it says to boil the spinoff and drain, but I steamed mine and it was delish. This was the first time I’ve had steamed kale and I absolutely loved it! Score!

Tomorrow is the last day! I don’t feel like I’ve lost any weight or anything, but we shall see. I certainly don’t feel like I’m depriving myself of anything, although I did want some of that leftover chicken in the fridge today. I can hold out, but just so you know I can’t wait to have a real meal on Friday!

3 Day Refresh – Day 1

I am so glad I’m doing this because so far it is easy peasy! It is the end of day one, I just took a bubble bath, I’m drinking a little more water and then I’m heading to bed.

Since it’s just after Memorial Day Weekend, it’s the perfect time to detox from the fun weekend. I didn’t go all out by any means but I did have more than one cheat meal! I went to the grocery store and got everything I needed which was all fruits and veggies and 3 gallons of filtered water. I wanted to get the gallons of water to ensure I was drinking enough every day. I’m drinking one a day and that should really assist in flushing out my system. In the refresh pamphlet there are some great recipes and food lists that you can pick from to prepare for the 3 days.

This morning I woke up, checked my email in bed, and then immediately made my shakeology before I got ready for the rest of the day. I added a half of banana, water, and ice to it and it tasted great. I had been drinking unsweetened almond milk with it and I honestly didn’t notice much of a difference in taste.

An hour later I had the fiber sweep which wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. I put it in cold water and squeezed some fresh lemon in it, and shook it until it was all nice and blended. There were a couple of clumps at the bottom which didn’t go down as smoothly, but all in all not that bad!

For Lunch I had my vanilla fresh and added raspberries to it. I also had a cucumbers and hummus for my veggie and healthy fat. It was filling and I didn’t feel like I was missing out at all

I also got an afternoon snack. If I didn’t have that I think it would have been much harder. I prepared a couple of celery sticks with almond butter and it was the perfect snack.

Dinner was probably the hardest because I made dinner for my boyfriend. We had yummy, healthy chicken sitting in the crock pot all day. This is normally a go to meal for me because it’s so easy. I usually make him a starch and then add a veggie. Since roasted asparagus was in the recipe book I made that for his and my veggie tonight. They were sooooo good!!!

I had to pass up the chicken and the mashed potatoes and I knew it was going to be hard, so I did the 21 day extreme upper fix workout. This made having another vanilla fresh shake soooo much easier. As an fyi, I really love the extreme workouts so far. I feel like I needed to change up my routine and my muscles are thanking me because I’m working them in a different way. That’s another reason I love beachbody. There are so many different programs to choose from so nothing ever gets old…except for maybe this vanilla fresh. I kid, I kid!!! hahaha

On to day 2!
