3 Day Refresh – To dive in or dip out?

Since Memorial Day is coming up I decided to take advantage of the sale that Beachbody is having on their 3 day refresh. I’ve seen some other people with amazing results and figured that after a holiday filled with dirty, rotten, evil alcoholic beverages and fried chicken (probably) staring me in the face, that this might be the time to dive in. Plus I’m going to Miami where the heat is on and every one has muscles right afterwards for a work trip. Before clicking the “buy” button I wanted to do even more research just to make sure this would be doable for me.

Now that I’m a fan of beachbody, since I’ve been doing other programs, I doubted that I would see any faults. Compared to other cleanses, this seems like one of the more healthy ones because it doesn’t totally deprive you of food. Sometimes when I see transformations (before and after pics) of people on-line after cleanses and diets and magic pills, I’m like, “Is that for real or is that photoshopped?” I can now attest that the beachbody photos aren’t photoshopped because I know some of these people personally. Now I’m not saying they don’t have Instagram filters on some of them…

I am committed to making a difference in my physical appearance and my mental health so I’m not too worried about my own accountability for staying on track for three days, but if you feel that you can’t commit to the program than I wouldn’t bother trying it.

With 3 day refresh you get the following:
3 Shakeology packets (you can choose your own flavors, but they recommend vegan for the cleans because they are a little easier to digest), 6 packets of Vanilla Fresh (which is a high content protein shake), 3 packets of Fiber Sweep (I hear you may want to stay close to a bathroom), and a program guide with recipes, allowable food, and other info.

From what I understand they basically divide your meals and shakes up throughout the day which means you’re not skipping any meals. I am always looking forward to my next meal because I’m addicted to food so this is really important for me.

Other cleanses don’t often include real foods, let alone nutritious foods so it shouldn’t feel too depriving. Plus some juice fasts are really high in sugar and low in protein which decreases your energy.  This one is designed to support your metabolism and nourish your organs. The other nice thing about this cleanse as it’s a great introduction to the beachbody programs. If you see results after just 3 days, then imagine what you can do for yourself if you stick to one of the longer programs. These programs are all about getting healthy.

Some tips that I’ve gotten:

  • modify your workouts if you currently have a program you are on. Since you aren’t fueling your body quite as much you may want to drop down the intensity.
  • Stock your fridge with the allowable foods prior to starting the cleanse so you have everything you need and you aren’t tempted by the inner layers of the grocery store.
  • Plan to do it around social engagements…again, so there isn’t any temptation.
  • This is definitely a low calorie cleanse and isn’t meant to be done for more than 3 days.

If you currently have shakeology you can order the 3 day refresh without which lowers the cost a little more. I’m jumping in for a Memorial Day cleanse and I’ll blog for the duration of it. I’ll be the guinea pig. If you want to be a guinea pig with me let me know and we can do it together. There is going to be a challenge group for it which really helps with motivation and accountability. Of course you don’t have to join it, but it’s actually kind of fun! For more information just Holla!! I have a video that I can share with you too if you’re interested. Just let me know in the comments and I will email you the link!

3 DAY REFRESH LOSE WEIGHT AND FEEL GREAT!

21 Day Fix – Day 21

I just want to start by wishing all of my mama readers a very happy Mother’s Day! Ihope, even if your children aren’t with you, that you are being celebrated. I believe children learn the most from their parents, and moms in particular, are a guiding light. I’ve learned all of life’s most important lessons from my mom and she’s the best example of the type of person I want to be. She never speaks negatively of anyone except for this one guy on a commercial that comes on all of the time (Who knows how he got cast). She always looks at things objectively, she gives more than she receives, she forgives, loves wholly, helps those who have less and those who have more, and treats everyone as equals. She’s understanding, she listens, she smiles at strangers because she wants them to smile, she’s empathetic, kind, smart, beautiful, strong, resilient, and wishes the best for everyone. She never gives up on me when I feel like giving up on myself and that’s what makes me keep going at the end of the day. I have no idea how I got so extremely lucky. I could say all of the same for my dad (but it’s Mother’s Day!). In my opinion both of my parents are as close to perfect as you can possibly be. Mother’s you are your child’s blessing, just as they are yours.Through my mother I see, and I know Gods love. If I become a mother I hope I can somehow compare. Thank you mom!!

Yesterday was so fun and busy that I was too exhausted to blog last night. You didn’t miss much though. The day started off pretty well with my workout and healthy breakfast but moving on from there it all went downhill. I’m not upset about it though. I knew what my choices were and I knew I was going to have to make up for it afterwards.

My boyfriend and I hung out with my parents all weekend and went to the Blind Willie Blues Festival in Thomson, GA. I’ll be posting a video of it on my TownieGirl YouTube channel, so if you’re interested please subscribe and you’ll get an update when I post it this week. It was a lot of fun! It’s such a great annual event and this is the second time we have been. I highly recommend it! I had a few beers and snacked on treats pretty much all day. When we went for dinner I got a perfect juicy hamburger and I enjoyed every bit of it. My belly wasn’t really thanking me, but my tastebuds were.

Today I woke up and ate some fruit then took my boyfriend to the airport. I’m still out of town so checked in to a hotel, got some healthy groceries, and got my yoga in. Plus I did one of the workouts from the 22 minute hardcore series. It worked me! This is the last day of the 21 day fix for me and I’ll be posting my results on Tuesday when I’m finally home and have access to the tape measure. That doesn’t mean I’m stopping. I’m starting over again tomorrow! This week I’m going to learn more about what it takes to be a coach so you’ll get new updates on that as well. Please let me know if you’d like to join any challenges and I’ll update you when I’m close starting a new one so you can jump on board.

21 Day Fix – Day 19

I don’t have much to write today, but like I promised yesterday I have an announcement. Now you probably won’t be as excited as I am but I’m going to share it with you anyway. I posted a vlog on YouTube earlier today so I’m sharing below. Less reading more watching people! Let me know what you think!

The Workout:

Cardio Fix – Man oh man, my body was tired this morning. I got up a little later than I had planned so I decided to forego breakfast and get my workout done so I could get ready and go. I think I definitely need to eat a little something before working out. I don’t all the time, but I think since I’ve been doing double workouts this week it’s had an affect on me and my energy levels. Although, when I’m done with a workout and feel worn out, I feel like I could do another one an hour or two later! I decided to give my body a little bit of a rest today and skip the second workout. I made it through all of the cardio fix workout but i felt faint during a little of it so changed to the modifiers during the rounds I wasn’t feeling so hot in.

Today’s Eats:

Breakfast:

(1 red)

  • 2 hard boiled eggs

Snack:

(1 blue, 1 tsp)
Kind Bar

So I definitely needed more than hard boiled eggs after my workout. I got ready and found a Starbucks and tried to find something I could eat plus got two bottles of water, one of which I chugged there and then. I looked up kind bars and found a post from Autumn saying that she eats those for a snack and counts them as one blue and one tsp (to be on the safe side).  That was a win for me!

Lunch:

(1 green, 1 red, 1/2 orange)

  • Salad with romaine lettuce and grilled chicken

Afternoon and evening snack:

(1 purple)

  • Strawberries

Normally about 8 strawberries fill up a container for me depending on size so that’s what I had for a snack.

Another afternoon snack:

(1 yellow, 1/2 blue, 1/3 purple)

  • Corn tortilla chips
  • Guac
  • Salsa

So I had a little extra blue and purple today, but didn’t eat both yellow containers, so there!

Dinner:

(1 red, 2 green, 1/2 orange)

  • Spinach/spring mix salad with carrots, green onion, & tomato and dressing
  • Baked Cod seasoned with pepper, onion powder, paprika, & cumin
  • Steamed green beans (I think there must have been butter in them because they tasted better than usual)

I drove to Washington, GA this evening to see my parents, sister, and nephew so I had a great healthy home cooked meal!

Score for a Friday night!

I’m looking forward to my workout tomorrow already! We are going to a music festival tomorrow and can’t bring any food or drink in so I’m hoping some of the vendors will have healthy options. Wish me luck!

Thanks for watching and reading! Have a wonderful weekend!

21 Day Fix – Day 18

It’s cinco de may which means my will power has to work it! I love Mexican food and any reason to celebrate by eating it. Don’t even get me started on tequila…

I have been so good today, you wouldn’t even believe it. Want to know what else? I have an announcement to make tomorrow. I’m just going to leave you with that!

Today’s workout:

Pilates –  I worked out in a hotel room today for both workouts. The nice thing about it is there was plenty of room in front of the mirrored closet. This really helped me so I could check on my form. I was worried that my body wasn’t quite in line when doing my planks and I was good for the most part. I just needed to adjust my shoulders a little so they were more in line.

Total Body Cardio Fix – so I brought my resistance band with me and I forgot that I needed weights for this particular round. I was able to modify and use it for a couple of things but otherwise I just did the movements unweighted. That didn’t really matter though because I really tried to increase the intensity and speed. My abs were beat after today, and I’m happy for it!

Today’s Eats:

Breakfast:

(1 red, 1/3 green)

  • Veggie frittata muffins

Snack

(1 purple)

  • Half of a Banana

Lunch

(1 red)

  • 2 hard boiled eggs

All of this is all I had left in my littler cooler so I made do!

Snack:

(1 red)

  • Protien shake

Dinner:

(1 red, 2 yellow, 1 green)

  • Filet Mignin
  • Broccolini
  • Sweet potato
  • One glass of red wine

Was so happy with dinner. I was so looking forward to it and glad I could find something healthy. A taco would have been good too!

Stay tuned for Fresh Friday!!

😘

21 Day Fix – Day 17

I got up super early this morning becaus I had a 3.5 hour drive ahead of me to visit customers on the western outskirts of my GA territory. I heard my alarm go off and I hit snooze and then I was like “Juie ANN, what are you thinking? You have to get up!” So I got up, hit play, ate breakfast, showered, packed what was left (tennis shoes and cooler) and left.

I listen to a lot of podcasts in my car and this morning I realized that I really depend on them to get me through a drive, especially early in the morning when people haven’t gotten to work yet and I don’t have them to talk to on the phone. Well I finally got a new phone and this morning I realized that my auxiliary cord that connects my phone with my car stereo doesn’t quite fit into the new phone case. Phone fail. One of my friends even texted a new podcast to me to listen to this morning and I couldn’t. Plus I downloaded Hamilton (the Broadway musical that you should have heard about by now) and I couldn’t even listen to that. Double phone fail! I ended up listening to the radio, then to silence, then to more morning radio which I’m not a very big fan of. I guess you didn’t need to know all that, but I’m hoping you’ll just wish me luck moving forward.

Today was decent. I did well until dinner time. See below.

The Workout:

Lower Fix – My butt is already sore! That’s really all I have. A sore butt. 10lbs (or 20 depending on how you look at it) all rounds, sore booty.

10 minute abs- I couldn’t get Beachbody on Demand to stream and didn’t download this before I left which was super annoying but I did find a girl on YouTube who recorded herself doing it, so I followed her and Autumn’s voice in the background.

Today’s Eats:

Breakfast:

(1 red, 1/3 green, 1 purple)

  • Veggies fritatta muffins
  • Half of a banana

Snack:

(1/2 purple, 1/2 red)

  • Strawberries
  • Hard boiled egg

Lunch:

(1/2 green, 1/2 red, 1/2 blue)

  • Hard boiled egg
  • Veggie salad (cucumber, avocado, tomato, red onion)

Snack:

(1 red)

  • Protein shake

Dinner:

(1 red, 1 1/2 green, 1 orange, 1 yellow)

  • Steak salad
  • 1/2 glass red wine

Dessert- this is where everything went wrong. I had Strawberry shortcake. It was just calling my name and I couldn’t resist. I felt terrible afterwards. I can’t tell if my stomach hurts because of the sugar or because of the 10 minute abs I made myself do when I got in. Now I have to be super careful tomorrow through the weekend because this was my cheat. I’m just glad it was after leg day. Those bigger muscles might appreciate it a little more. Ok, enough with the excuses. All you can do is move on after cheating and make better choices. I’m going to go chug some water now and hit the hay…another long day tomorrow. God bless!

21 Day Fix – Day 16

Sixteen is my favorite number and my endorphins were pumping this morning. I made it through my workout and through a happy breakfast first thing!

There is nothing like a smiley face staring back at you to give you a sense of encouragment.

I wiped that smiley face right off that plate. Not out of malice, out of gratitude. My life is fully abundant. I have a roof over my head, shoes on my feet, great food to eat, and love in my life. That’s all a girl really needs right? Geez, I hope these endorphins stay put!

Today I got back on Snapchat and my goal is to share a daily affirmation with my contacts. Sometimes I’m all gungho and snap all the time, but lately it’s been falling to the wayside.I figured adding daily affirmations to my routine would help my Snap accountability as well improve my daily routine. Affirmations are a great way to improve your mood, your relationships, and your every day life. When you think positively, you grow positively. My go to affirmation has been “My life is full of abundance.” If you’re interested in joining me follow me on snapchat! Most of my snaps are sent when I’m on the road going to and from appointments, because that’s when I’m most clever.

The Workout:

Upper Fix- I will tell you right now that I am going to be sore tomorrow! Increasing my weight only 2 lbs made a big difference! I still suck at push ups but they are getting better little by little. I made it through both rounds of scissor crunches feeling strong at the end and that’s a win! I remember when I couldn’t get through 5 seconds without having to modify. Stronger every day!!

Cardio Fix- can’t say I was looking forward to this but I’m all about double round week. I sweated through it and was wiped out after.

Today’s Eats:

Breakfast:

(1/3 green, 1 red, 1 purple)

  • 2 veggie frittata muffins
  • 1/2 banana

Snack:

(1 red)

  • Raw Fit Protien Powder

Lunch:

(1 red, 1/2 green, 1/2 blue)

  • Leftover crockpot chicken
  • 1 hard boiled egg
  • Cucumbers & hummus

I snapped a pic of lunch on the go today! Cute and compartmentalized!

Snack:

(1 green)

  • Green juice

Dinner:

(1 red, 1 green, 1 yellow)

  • Blackened grouper
  • Veggie mix (1 avocado, 1/2 cucumber, 1/2 red onion, and 2 tomatoes)
  • Butternut squash fries

This was one of the easiest and best things I have made lately. All the flavors went together so well. I did add a little Himalayan pink sea salt and ground black peppercorns.

Oh I did have a little extra Protien today. I had another egg after my 2nd workout. I needed something and that seemed fitfabdelish!

Tomorrow is coming and I have to pack! Goodnight and thanks for reading!

21 Day Fix – Day 15

It’s Monday, Day 15! Time goes by so fast! Even so, I still don’t appreciate Monday’s as much as I should. Every day is a blessing and I should count each Monday as Saturday’s equal. I Even though I woke up early today, I didn’t fit in everything I planned to do, but I was still pretty productive. I feel like I had a mountain of email to climb today and I climbed half way up. It was more like Mount Everest than Mount Baldy (if you don’t know where that is, there is always Google). *Side note: We used to go to Mount Baldy just for the “Mount Baldy” that one of the local places served. It was a huge pile up of nachos with everything you could ever want on it. Sometimes I still dream about it…<sigh> … Anyway, I organized, I saw a customer that needed help with some bridal party gifts, talked to folks on the phone, and I did not one but two workouts!! I’ll be here all week folks, no need to applause!!

During the 3rd and final week of the 21 day fix, Autumn recommends that you do two workouts a day, one in the morning and one in the evening to re-boost your metabolism. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to do that all this week because I’m traveling so much, but I’m going to try! I’ve got my iPad with the 30 day trial of beachbody and I bought that resistance band at Walmart. I’m interested to see how I do with that instead of weights. I got the heavy one so I think that will give me a run for my money. Otherwise I’ll be running back to Walmart to get my money! Hehe

The Workout:

Total Cardio Fix – I did this in the morning and I tried to increase weights on all exercises, but on a couple I had to go back to the lighter weights. I wish I had even lighter weights for the weighted knee pulls. I’m getting better on those, but I had to do the last 15-20 seconds of each round without weights. Otherwise the tens on most of the exercises worked for me. Oh I also started out with tens during the weighted runs and switched to eights a little more than half way through each set. The tens definitely bump up the intensity and I was sweeeaaaaty (and definitely wanted to stop, but I didn’t).

Pilates – I changed back into my workout clothes and got double the sweat on. You wouldn’t think pilates would make you sweat that much, but it does! It’s so cool to see how I’m improving every week with my form and strength. I hope I’m getting addicted!

Today’s Eats:

Breakfast:

(1 1/2 red, 1/2 green)

  • 2 Veggie Frittata Muffins

and then I had another one for a snack after my first workout.

Lunch:

(1 red, 1/2 green, 1/2 blue)

  • Canned tuna with hot sauce
  • Cucumbers
  • Hummus

Snack:

(1 Green, 1/2 purple)

  • Green Juice

Dinner:

(1 red, 1 green)

  • Chicken from the crock-pot
  • Roasted zucchini & squash

Snack:

  • Protein powder with 8 oz unsweetened almond milk

So I just got this protein powder. One of my customers had given me a packet to try after she listened to what I was looking for. She carries the Raw Fit probiotics and the protein powder which is certified organic. One jug only has 10 servings I believe and I really wanted it so I ordered it online. I’m hoping I’ll like it and the next time I see her I’m going to pick up some from her. Shakeology from what I’ve seen is great, but for my diet this works better. Some shakeology flavors are dairy and gluten free so I may try those. If you don’t have any issues then I would recommend Shakeology as everyone seems to love it and the reviews are great. The Raw fit was a little gritty but I didn’t blend it at all, I just used my shaker and shook it baby! I’m used to using protein powders as a supplement and chugging them. I rarely make something tasty with them just because I use them when I’m in my car for the most part.

In other news, I had my improv class tonight with Mad Cowford which was super fun as always. I might have said this before, but it’s so much fun to see everyone grow and I have such a great group. I’ve thought about joining in before, but everything happens in it’s own time and I know I was meant to be part of this group.Everyone is so supportive of one another and I see some bonds forming. Oh I love it. We’re so cute!

Step outside of your box and try something new. You never know who you’re going to meet or what you’re going to learn about yourself. It could change your life. Sometimes change is weird, sometimes it’s hard, sometimes it makes you nervous. Most of the time it turns out to be really really good. You have to start doing something for yourself. It’s only when we truly love ourselves that we can give fully to others.

Have a wonderful week!!

21 Day Fix – Day 14

I had a busy day, too busy for a Sunday if you ask me. I wanted to watch Hulu all day. I have some major guilty pleasures on there that I won’t speak of. They might ruin my reputation of being kind of cool. I had an audition that I needed to put on tape so my friend Chris helped me out, then after several takes I got it to my liking and drove to the grocery store. I loaded up on produce and meat, came home, unloaded, and began my meal prep. This week is going to be a little tricky because I won’t be home Wednesday through Friday. I’m working the outskirts of my territory so am overnighting it. I plan to take a cooler for breakfasts, snacks, and lunch at least.

Today I made paleo egg muffins. I’ve made them before following a recipe and they are super easy so I just kind of winged it this time. My recipe:

  • 10 eggs
  • 1/4 C Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • 10 asparagus spears
  • 4 mushrooms
  • 1/2 Red Onion
  • 2 Sweet peppers

Preheat oven to 350. Chop all vegetables and sauté in coconut oil. Whisk eggs and almond milk together. Once veggies are done to your liking separate them into your muffin pan. Pour egg mixture on top of veggies and bake for approximately 20 minutes. Yields 12 muffins, 6 servings.

For 21 day fix servings: 1 red, 1/3 green

I also made my green juice for three days. You really don’t want to make too much of this ahead. Make sure that if you do store your juice, store it in an air tight container.

  • 2 lemons peeled
  • 1 1/2 celery stalks
  • 1 bunch of Kale
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 inch size piece of ginger
  • 8 strawberries

Yield 3 10 oz servings. I count each serving as 1 green, 1/3 purple.

Next I prepped my butternut squash fries. Now I seriously hate making this but I love the way they taste. I think this counts as a workout. I have the recipe posted on one of my blogs from several days ago, but you can find them on Pinterest too. Just make sure to sub any ingredients that you shouldn’t have. I seasoned mine with Himalayan sea salt, garlic powder, pepper, and paprika and have them in a gallon ziplock bag in my fridge. You might want to wait on the garlic powder because every time I open the fridge I get punched in the face with the smell of garlic. I have a black eye.

Right now I also have a whole chicken defrosting on the counter. First thing in the morning I’m putting that baby in the crockpot so dinner will be done without me having to tend to it. I also have some zuchinni and squash ready to go in the oven as a side. Tomorrow’s not even here and it’s done. Yayo!

There is also a chicken and cabbage recipe that I didn’t have time to make but it’s super quick and easy. I’ll be making that very early tomorrow morning before work gets started for my lunches. I should have made it today but I still had to get my workout in. Speaking of…

The Workout

Yoga Fix – I definitely wanted to do yoga today but I felt like doing something a little extra. I needed a little push after my cheat evening on Saturday. Although I was busy all day today I wanted to sweat a little more. Before yoga I did four rounds of this to get my heart rate up and burn some extra calories…

I found it on pinterst and thought it was the perfect little push, without going all out, that I needed for today. Afterwards, yoga felt great. Every time I feel stronger and better about my alignment in the poses. It’s funny when you think you’re doing it right, make an adjustment, and then realize you’re doing it right.

Today’s Eats

Breakfast:

(1 red, 1/2 green)

  • Veggie fritata. No cheese!

Lunch:

(2 red)

  • Leftover turkey meatloaf

Snack

(1 green, 1/3 purple)

  • Green juice

Dinner:

(1 red, 1 green)

  • Grilled chicken breast
  • Slaw without mayo

Everything I do is without mayo. I can’t stand it. That and snakes are my worst fear. If I were ever to experience hell, it will be snakes swimming around in mayo. Ugh. That’s awful imagery. I’m sorry.

I hope you enjoyed your Sunday! Get ready for the last day of 21 Day Fix!!

21 Day Fix – Day 13

I’m going to be a weekend warrior. Who’s coming with me?!

I feel like I can’t ever sleep in on the weekends unless I’m camping when I should be waking up early to sieze the day and natural wonders whichever park we are exploring. That’s not the case though as I woke up at 7:30 this morning. I really woke up before that but I closed my eyes in hopes I would fall back asleep. I just lay there and then a thought came to me. “Crap, I didn’t post my blog from yesterday!!!”…
So up I got, coffee on the burner & breakfast made, blog complete.

There’s so much I wanted to get done today but I prioritized my workout so I could get it over with and focus on everything else like laundry and grocery shopping. Yes, I could use the hashtag #adulting, but that’s just silly and overused. I’d rather just call myself a #maturemaiden because I’m so responsible!

The Workout:

Dirty 30 – People usually love this workout and I like it just fine. I think I would love any workout afte cardio fix though. I’m using the 10lb weights and it feels good.

Today’s Eats:

Breakfast

(1/2 green, 1 red, 1/2 blue, 1 tsp)

  • Scrambled eggs with shredded cheddar
  • Broccoli & mushrooms in coconut oil

+ a cup of coffee which I only drank half of. I don’t know what the deal with coffee and me is. I can’t drink a full cup in the morning, but that’s a good thing I suppose. Maybe I’ll have an iced coffee later for a little pick me up.

Lunch:

(1 yellow, 1 red)

  • Canned tuna
  • Black beans
  • Hot sauce

Right now I’m folding my second load of laundry and watching Jane the Virgin on Netflix. She’s planning a wedding and this wedding cake is really having an effect on me…mmmm tuna…

Snack:

(1 purple, 1 green)

  • Strawberry and spinach smoothie

That was the last thing I remember. I blacked out on the rest of the day…

Just kidding. So I went to a graduation party and there was a table of food. I could have made all great choices and I didn’t. I started off with a chicken wing and a glass of wine. Next thing I know there is a jello shot and a cracker with brown sugar and bacon in my hand. I thought, “Hey, it’s a celebration and my taste buds want to party!” Well party they did. Compared to yesterday this was definitely a cheat evening. System shocked. My tennis date just got cancelled for Sunday so I’ll fit in an extra workout somewhere in there…

It’s not the end of the world. Sometimes you’re going to eat things that aren’t the best for your body, and that’s fine. You’re creating a healthy lifestyle by eating right and exercising most of the time. If you’re doing the 21 day fix and you’re seeing results, those aren’t going to go away with a couple of slips. The only way they change is if you slip and fall and don’t get back up. It’s up to you to shake it off and get back to your routine. I used to beat myself up if I made unhealthy choices and now I shrug it off and move on. That’s what we should do with anything ugly that we cross on our paths. Shrug them off and move on. It does nothing for our well being to focus on negative energies. It’s up to us to turn the negative into a positive. So on Sunday I’m going to be proud of myself for kickstarting another healthy week. Let the meal prep begin!
